Gilbert watched you round the corner. It was now or never. He leaned in to kiss the girl next to him, watching you out of the corner of his eye. You froze in your tracks, horrified. You seemed unable to tear your eyes away from the terrible scene. After all, you had loved to Prussian for so long, but you had never made a move… and now…. Tears leaked out of your eyes and you turned, fleeing from the afterimage of Gilbert with his hands wrapped around some other girl, her hands in his silver hair. As soon as you were out of sight, Gilbert tore himself out of the girl's grip and slipped her a twenty dollar bill. You were bawling by the time you reached home. You threw yourself through the door and onto your couch where you cried yourself to sleep, the image haunting you, creeping into your nightmares. A knock woke you. It was loud and rambunctious. Only one person in the entire world knocked like that. You heaved yourself up and opened the door. You probably looked like hell, with splotchy cheeks and disheveled hair, but at this point, you were beyond caring. Gilbert walked in, proclaiming that
"I'm here to play vid- mein Gott  _______ , are you ok?" as he finally took in your appearance.
"No" you snapped and went back to the couch. He sat next to you.
"What's wrong?" he asked you.
"You were kissing that other girl…" You said before realizing that you had already half-admitted your feeling for him. Tears coming out of your eyes again, you continued
"and I hated it. Because I'm in love with you, Gilbert Beilschmidt. I love you more than anyone else, but you don't love me." You had not looked up throughout your entire little speech, instead looking at your knees. You jumped in surprise when tender fingers slid under your chin and lifted your head, bringing you to face him.
"Don't love you? _______ I love you more than anything, anyone else. France said to me once that the three most powerful words in the world are 'I love you', that they encompass everything that a man feels when he is in love with a woman. But that's not true, not for me. I love you doesn't even begin to cover what I feel for you. How every time I see or hear your name, my heart does a little dance, how every time I see you, my heart doesn't flutter- it just stops beating, because your heart is enough for me, how every time I close my eyes, I see you behind my eyelids, how you're in my dreams every night, in my arms. You say I don't love you?" He smiled, "_______ I love you more than life itself." You opened your mouth to ask him something, but he put a finger to your lips stopping you.
"And that other girl" he continued, "I paid her to kiss me, because I couldn't bring myself to just come right out and tell you just what you meant to me. I had to make sure. Gott, _____ I love you. I love you so much it hurts. A while ago, when you were dating that other guy for two weeks, I almost died. I almost killed him every time he touched you. I love you. I'll never be able to say it enough." He said softly, removing his finger from your lips. But you couldn't say anything. You just launched yourself forward and embraced him. You held him tight, as though you might never get to hold him again. Gilbert pushed his nose into your hair as he held you close. You started to cry again. He pushed you off of him.
"Don't cry" He told you as he kissed each tear away, "It's unawesome" You cracked a smile and he kissed you. His taste was indescribable, and you couldn't get enough of it. When you finally broke apart for air, he leaned his forehead on yours.
"More than life itself" he whispered again.
